This very popular bonsai is grown for its attractive shiny smooth bark and palmately arranged leaves that change color in the fall turning yellow, orange, red or purple. During summer, it bears small red flowers. It has flexible branches that response very well to training making this tree great for a lot of different bonsai styles. Native to Japan, this tree is hardy and needs to be grown outdoors.
